Photogenic Notions

I have a co-worker who grew up primarily in Pakistan, moving back to the states when he was in high school and staying here for college. Only recently has he been able to start going back to Pakistan with some regularity. After his last trip he came back talking about the food, the weather, the mountains, the beauty and the culture. He always describes his memories of Pakistan with such vibrance and detail that I shouldn’t have been surprised when he came over to my desk after his last trip and unfurled yard after yard of some of the most beautiful trim I have ever seen.

You don’t go to Joann Fabrics and find anything like this. The sheer number of threads that create each pattern is overwhelming. The colors are a level of intensity I’ve rarely seen. The depth of the texture just kind of sucks me in.

I sat with these notions strewn across my desk all day today, stealing glances and occasionally wandering off in thought as I tried to figure out what I could make with them. I still don’t know what it will be, but whatever it is, it’s going to be pretty special. What an amazing gift!

So beautiful! I think the trim would be pretty at the edge or end of a solid-colored scarf, or maybe part of a table runner? How about on the edge of a skirt or sleaves?

I like all your thoughts — a scarf would be great because then I could wear it all the time! I’m hoping to make a summer tunic and use the first bit of trim around the bottom. I guess now it’s just a matter of finding some material that can stand up to being paired with this great trim.
