I Like Birds, The Eels

Birdsinarow

Just as my friends started streaming into the house today for a serious craft session, The Eels, I Like Birds popped on the player. Very appropriate.

These little guys will be gracing the branches of the centerpieces at my friend’s upcoming wedding (ETA: They turned out nicely. See here). They are built from the Mister Blue Bird pattern from Spool, a pattern which I’ve been eager to find a reason to use. With the help of a few good friends and a future mother-in-law and sister-in-law (the bride’s, not mine), we got about 40 of these guys whipped out in a few hours.

We also killed some scones and some fresh-baked bread because that’s the way we roll. The birds cleaned up the crumbs.

In other news, I found a fabulous use for the Manly Men fabric I found earlier this year at Goodwill. To be honest, I’m pretty pleased that it found such a fun (and functional) project and such a good new owner. Said bride-to-be above had her bachelorette party this weekend. I decided this little number would be an appropriate gift. While I didn’t expect the apron to make it out of the bag at all, she ended up wearing it all night. On stage. While singing R.E.M.’s “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine).” She’s a good sport, that one.
